Happy Retirement Pastor Jerry!
Thanks to all you came out to celebrate Pastor Jerry’s Retirement! We have been blessed with his ministry and wish him and Paula the best as they move on with their new journey.
Letter from Paula and Pastor Jerry,
So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. – I Thessalonians 2:8
Just one more opportunity to have the last word. Pastor Jerry expressed his thanks to you all in June’s newsletter and so it is my turn. Just a quick update, my Rev is enjoying his first week of retirement. We are both still overwhelmed by the 2 parties you had for us and for all the kind words we’ve received. Your notes of appreciation are so special to us as are you. We are so grateful to the many who were able to attend the Open House on Saturday, June 22, members from all 4 churches we have served, Salem in Albert Lea, Hope in Sioux Falls, Beaver Valley in rural Valley Springs and Spirit of Truth here in Brandon.
Then there was Jerry’s final service, the church potluck and program on June 30. His last Sunday was a day we will never forget. The hymns, scriptures, special music and the message from Jerry to Follow Christ from Luke 9:51-62. His message to Spirit of Truth was to continue in this call to “Follow Jesus” and stay in His Word. For those unable to attend, the service is shown on Alliance channel 21 Fridays at 6:30 pm.
Then there was the very special program after a delicious potluck dinner (thanks all). For those of you who were unable to attend I am inserting pics of the gifts given so you didn’t miss anything. Thanks, church family, for the very generous gift of Twins jackets for each of us and money to go to a game and stay over. How kind and something we both will love doing. Thank you, Quilt ladies, for the beautiful quilt and all who signed it and the beautiful scripture verses on it. Thanks, Phil, for the neat caricature of us and the special touches of the 1959 car, Jerry’s camouflage Bible and a robin’s nest. Thanks all for submitting your favorite verses for our special memory book (extra copies available at church) Thanks, Marcella, for the cute poem on Jerry’s retirement. Special thanks to our children and grands for all being there; Rosie’s singing “How Great Thou Art” and the surprise when Ruth Ann and Shannon joined her. Beautiful! And Rich’s sharing from I Thessalonians 2 and his gratefulness to his dad as a Pastor for “showing up.” He also challenged Spirit of Truth to continue to “show up” for the needs of others and then concluded in prayer over his dad and fellow pastor.
As I shared at the program, I am very grateful for my Rev who I met at Salem in Albert Lea in 1985 when I spoke there and then his courage to call and ask me out, a divorced mother of 3 little ones. We were married at Salem later that year. He adopted my 3 and we had Rosie together while at Hope, completing our family of 6 which has now grown to 16. I am truly blessed, thanks Jerry.
We are so blessed by all the kindnesses shown us during these 36 years, half of them in this area. God bless Jerry and God bless you all. We are staying on the acreage and although we are no longer your pastor and wife, we will be eternally your friends and family in Christ. What joy!
Love in Christ,
Paula & Pastor
